2026 News and Events

NHLBI Program Office Visit

On May 12, 2026, Sean Coady arrived in Danville to visit the MEU at Millennium Park. During his visit, he also met with some of our Boyle and Garrard County CAB members and toured both counties.

Appalachian Research Day Conference

On April 8, 2026, the Kentucky Core attended the Appalachian Research Day Conference in Corbin, Kentucky for a second time. Dr. Boone served as the keynote speaker, presenting an overview of RURAL, health in rural communities, and data from Perry and Breathitt Counties. Scotland Stewart presented a poster on evaluating Kentucky community engagement and social media activity in RURAL.

Quarterly CAB Meeting – Boyle and Garrard Counties

The Kentucky Core of the RURAL Study hosted its quarterly Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting for Boyle and Garrard Counties, where members discussed targeted strategies to enhance recruitment among young adults and men.

Community Outreach at Garrard Food Pantry

Representatives from the Kentucky Core, Stephie and Scotland, traveled to Garrard County to distribute promotional materials at the Garrard Food Pantry. They also engaged with several local businesses, connecting directly with employers to increase awareness of the study.

Community Wellness Event – Garrard County

The Kentucky Core hosted a Community Wellness Event in partnership with the Garrard County Extension Office. The event was highly successful, featuring 14 vendors and attracting over 70 attendees. In addition to promoting the RURAL Study, vendors offered free health screenings, educational resources, and complimentary food.

“The Joe Show” Interview

On January 8th, Dr. Stephanie Boone was interviewed for a second time on “The Joe Show” on WHIR.

Garrard County Chamber of Commerce

On January 8th, Dr. Stephanie Boone presented the RURAL Study to the Garrard County Chamber of Commerce to give an overview of the study and to provide recruitment updates.
